From the Heart: My Journey to iMeal Prep by Jodi
Welcome to My Page!
What started as a simple act of helping a friend in January 2023 slowly turned into something much more meaningful. At the time, I was working part-time at a private law firm after my hours were reduced during the pandemic. Eventually, I transitioned to an independent contractor as the attorney began closing her practice. Life was shifting and in that moment of uncertainty, an unexpected opportunity found me.
A dear friend reached out, asking if I could cook for her parents. They were in their 80s and no longer able to prepare meals for themselves. I said yes, not knowing that this small decision would change the direction of my life. I began cooking home-cooked meals for them, and through that experience, I discovered how powerful food can be...not just for nourishment, but for comfort, dignity, and care.
By mid-spring 2023, her parents had transitioned into a nursing home, and my services were no longer needed. But soon after, another opportunity came. That summer, a friend referred me to her friend’s uncle, and I was able to continue my journey of caring for others through home-cooked meals.
He was in his mid-80s and had recently lost his wife to cancer. She had been the heart of his home; the one who cooked, cared, and kept everything together. With no children and no one by his side, he suddenly found himself alone, unsure how to care for himself in the way she once had. I had the privilege of cooking for him from June 2023 until December 2025.
But what I gained from that experience went far beyond cooking.
He shared stories about his life, his love, and the lessons he learned along the way. Sometimes we laughed, sometimes we reflected and in many ways, we kept each other company. When his niece later decided he needed a full-time caregiver, I was both sad and grateful. Sad to say goodbye, but happy knowing he would no longer be alone.
From 2023 to 2025, I chose to dedicate my service exclusively to seniors and individuals with disabilities. I turned down many other requests because I felt deeply committed to those who needed care the most. Life can be especially challenging for them, and I wanted to provide something simple yet meaningful; a warm, healthy, home-cooked meal made with care.
Over time, friends and clients encouraged me to expand. They told me how much they loved my food and suggested I share it with more people.
At the start of 2026, I made the heartfelt decision to grow and share my cooking with more people.
While my heart will always remain with the community that started this journey, I am now opening my services to anyone who is looking for comforting, home-cooked meals made with intention and love.
Thank you for being here and supporting my journey.
